            John is a third generation builder who learned from his father and grandfather the art of homebuilding. Smolen Homes has been building home in the Syracuse area for almost 40 years. Before John bought the business from his father in 2003, he worked in every aspect of the business and is completely knowledgeable of the entire process. When you sign on for a Smolen Home, you get more than a homebuilder. You get a solid, long-standing reputation and name in the business that is taken very seriously. One of John’s fortes is trimming the home. He is a craftsman who can design custom bookshelves, cabinets, entertainment centers, fireplace mantles, and who has trained several of his employees as well. Your home will truly be one of a kind! John continues the tradition passed down to him and hopes to positively contribute to the reputation of the company into the next generation.

            It is possible in a day to see John working with the architect to finalize a print, meeting with clients to discuss specific details, working with suppliers and subcontractors, and/or creating the schedule that will get your home done on time. You might also find him in our shop building a set of stairs, installing your new kitchen cabinets, or designing the custom set of bookshelves you’ve always wanted. Many builders understand the process of getting a job done and a house built. John goes one step further because he knows HOW it is all done, WHY it is all done, and he melds it all together with decades of historical knowledge passed down from his family.

   John lives in Lakeland, NY, with his wife Lisa and their two children Kristen and Jonathan.
